She Learned Her Name in the Fire

At her birth,
She was given the name she—
universal, as in female,
spoken over her
before she would bear her own voice. 

A sound shaped by others
to make sense of her body.

She put on that old coat
and wore it for a while.
Let it rest on her shoulders—
heavy, indistinct.
Too large in some places.
Too tight in others.

Others tried to rename her:
Daughter. Wife. Mother.
Bitch. Female. Whore.

The fire listened.

It stripped language down
to what could survive
extreme heat.
Asked what of her remained
when every borrowed word
fell away.

She did not know.
She had not learned to speak.

In the fire,
grace learned its weight.
Endurance learned its softness.

And she learned about immortality.

And in the midst, her name was spoken—
not as a thrown-away rag,
not as a role,
but as recognition.
As self.

To know oneself
is not to become finished.
It is to stand inside the heat
and answer it back.

There, she learned what her voice

 sounded like when only grace

 was listening.

And when she finally spoke aloud 

She called herself 

Amara.

About the Work

An original is not simply art; it is the source.

This is the first and only version of the work, created entirely by hand, where every decision lives permanently on the surface: the pauses, the revisions, the instinct that cannot be repeated. Once it leaves the studio, it will never exist again in this form.
