There Was No Version of Her Untouched

Where she was
is gone.

Before her unfolds a dry saguaro landscape.
She says a prayer for rain.

The forest floor caved in behind her.
There is no before to return to.
As in where she was
is gone.

Every version of her since
has been shaped—
by hands,
by heat,
by history.

What you see here
Is a living record.

Hue presses against hue
the way memory presses
against the body:
uneven,
intimate,
impossible to discern cleanly.

Fire moves through her
without asking permission—
not as violence,
not as spectacle,
But as fact.

She says a prayer for rain.

The blue does not extinguish it.
The orange and red
Do not consume her.
They coexist, in contradiction—
like lips against skin and

 The quiet reveal of a 

chaste virgin’s ankle bone.

She does not search
for an untouched self.

There is no use. 

Time lags. 

But again, she says a prayer for rain.

Fire rejects the idea
that such a thing ever existed.

Because where she was is gone.
